“If She Can See It, She Can Be It” — What My Kids Learn About Ambition and Balance While Watching Me Work
In 2019, I wrote the words “If she can see it, she can be it” after watching Sara Blakely’s cameo on Billions. It was a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment — but it said everything about representation, especially for entrepreneurial moms like us. Women 2.0
Someone asked a great question on LinkedIn this week, and I thought about how I felt when I wrote that:
👉 How do you explain the pressures you’re facing at work to your kids? Do you let them in as a teaching moment — or shield them from the stress of it all?
It stopped my scroll because my answer has changed so much over the years. This shift in perspective has been shaped by both my career changes and my family’s evolving experiences.
When I worked for HBO, my kids recognized the brand — but what they really saw was that I was away a lot on business trips. They were proud, but conflicted.
Now, as a solopreneur, there’s no “status” attached to my work. But what they notice today is much more personal. They’ve overheard clients say, “Your mom changed my life.” They see me chair events at their schools. They know the rollercoaster of entrepreneurial stress, but we celebrate my wins together.
