If You Can’t Love Your Life, Who Will?
You may have heard the phrase you can’t be in two places at one time, but as working parents, the reality is your heart and mind are almost always split.
You never stop thinking of your children, no matter what happens in your work or life. That’s the reality of having two important; some might say equally important roles that mean everything to you.
The challenge, then, is not to compartmentalize your life or be so torn that you aren’t fully present in either role. To avoid going through the motions or drowning in a relentless barrage of responsibilities, you may switch gears and turn your attention throughout the day to whatever project crosses your desk or the child in your path demands.
And it’s also how we get stuck in the pattern of urgent versus important. And, while it’s understandable that so many things feel urgent and important, that approach to life will leave you unconscious about how much time is passing by. You’ll end up in a never-ending assembly line, counting down time instead of making the most of it.
It’s a symptom of one of the most dangerous yet largely unanticipated side effects of being in two places at one…
