In My Moms Group…
Staying Optimistic in a Scary World
If you haven’t joined your local mom group on Facebook, you are missing out. It’s where to go for plumber recommendations, to compare energy costs, commiserate about the HOA, ask about teachers, schools, and homework, and get real-time reviews about everything a family might be considering, needing, or hiring.
The conversation is usually pretty light. Most focus on solutions and steer away from politics to keep it neighborly.
But in Other Mom Groups…
On the first day of the Ukraine invasion, I saw a heartbreaking post from a Ukrainian mom. She shared a recommendation that before you send your children to a bunker, you should put their information in their clothes. Write their name, phone number, and blood type on their tags.
I took a breath and remembered a note a twin mom shared with me when she found out we were pregnant with twins. It’s posted in its entirety at the bottom, called For All Mothers. As far as I can tell, no one knows who to credit.
It talks about how you think you know how motherhood will change you. You imagine not sleeping or questioning your career, but the thing that impacts you the most is that once you become a mom, you will forever think of people in terms of families.
