It’s What They Want You to Do Anyway
As someone who left corporate life behind in 2016 and watched countless others coming and going (since the early 2000s!), what’s said vs. what’s left unsaid when you go back to a corporate job is telling.
Last week, I wondered why there’s a stigma about being let go when 40% of Americans have been laid off (at least once).
But it’s little consolation that it happened to others when it’s happening to you.
After a moment, however, you might be surprised to realize that you aren’t totally devastated.
What if you feel a tiny bit relieved?
Or intrigued by the idea of trying something new?
You may have a business idea that’s stuck with you, a side hustle with potential, or a stack of notebooks in a drawer full of ideas. Yeah, yeah, it’s probably nothing. But what if it isn’t?
What if it’s a second chance?
What if? What if?
Even if you’ve hardly dared to imagine other possibilities, if you thought you’d be in your old role until retirement, or called yourself a “lifer,” funny things can happen when you step away.
