The Power of Showing Up
Earlier this year, our daughter auditioned for the school play. The director cast her as an extra. She was disappointed but excited, too. We reminded her that the more prominent roles were likely given to students with more experience and encouraged her to show up, stay ready, and see what happened.
A couple of weeks ago, she came home excitedly: “I have a line!” The director noticed how prepared and engaged she was at rehearsals and gave her a minor role.
Last night, she came home with even bigger news: “I’m an understudy now! I have 11 lines to learn by the end of fall break.”
Her progress is a good reminder that showing up consistently, paying attention, being fully present, and being ready to step up is half the battle. I recalled this post I wrote in 2019: 80% of Success is Just Showing Up.
