The Fleeting Windows of Opportunity: Advice for Women Younger Than Me
I don’t know if you’ve seen the trend where older women offer younger women advice they wish someone had shared with them, but I’m here for it.
If I could share one piece of advice with women younger than me, it would be this: you have windows of opportunity, but they are fleeting.
There will be moments when everything in your life aligns. You’re making good money, your relationship feels solid, your kids (if you have them) are thriving or maybe even grown, your health is good, your parents are stable, and you feel a sense of possibility and contentment.
But these windows are rare, don’t last forever, and rarely align when the world settles down.
Right now, interest rates are high, everything is expensive, markets are unpredictable, politics feel chaotic, and climate change is reshaping landscapes. It’s easy to look at the instability around us and think, “Now isn’t the ideal time to {insert what feels like a big risk for you}.”
But the world has never been entirely stable. If you wait for the perfect conditions, when everything is calm, predictable, and risk-free, you’ll wait forever.
