Bittersweet Realizations
Last night, a friend shared something with me that I haven’t been able to stop thinking about.
She said she didn’t travel much when she was growing up.
She always wanted to — but her family didn’t, then came the kids, the job, the life that fills your calendar and postpones your dreams.
Then, in her forties, she and her husband finally booked a big international trip.
She figured it would scratch the itch.
But it didn’t.
It cracked something open.
Now she’s rearranged everything — time, money, mindset — to travel more.
Not someday.
Not when things slow down.
Now.
She said:
“It feels like I’ve found this window I didn’t know was open. And now I can’t get enough.”
Not because she’s trying to escape her life, but because she finally realized how much of the world is available.
And how much she wants to experience it.
It’s as good as she’d hoped — and then some.
She daydreams about places she’s been. Imagines the surprises still to come.
Feels flashes of regret and FOMO for the places she…
