I Love Your Ring

On my first day at my favorite job, I sat down at my first meeting, and the woman beside me leaned over and whispered, “I love your ring.”

“Do you want to buy it?” I blurted out.

Maybe not the best reply, but I was nervous, and the question popped out of my mouth before I could stop it.

I tried to redeem myself, “It’s my favorite too. And anytime I see something I like this much, I buy two, just in case.”

Did that make it better or worse? Cringe.

She laughed and made me an offer.

We both wore it for years, sometimes to the same meetings.

A Friendship Was Born

If I was Keeley, she was Rebecca (I’m talking about Ted Lasso, of course).

I didn’t know how old she was when we met. I’ve never been good at telling age. But we worked together for over a decade and traveled together often, so we got to know each other well.

She was married with kids and coached me through getting married and having kids, and I appreciated and relied on her wisdom, even (especially?) when I was promoted and became her boss.
