Whatever You Call It: Work/Life Balance is Still B*A*L*A*N*C*E

Balancing Act: Gratitude, Forgiveness, and Growth

Today is my birthday.

And I’m disappointed to report that I woke up thinking about something awful. It was a hard time in my life, and the people involved were not my friends. I was young and trusted them (kind of), and I have regrets.

So, not rainbows and unicorns. Not even cupcakes and confetti.

When I get pulled to the dark side, I have a default exercise that kicks in. First, I start listing what I’m grateful for:

  • My husband
  • My daughter
  • My son
  • My daughter
  • Our dog
  • Our home
  • My body (I go through each part top to bottom or bottom to top, one at a time, until my heart rate returns to normal, my muscles unclench, and my breathing slows down. (Sometimes, I have to list more parts or more people. More gratitude is always the answer.)

Then, I say, I forgive you. I forgive everyone involved. I forgive myself for making poor choices, not knowing better, for my part in it. I forgive the situation. This act of forgiveness is a powerful tool that can bring peace and healing…
