Your Guide to Adulting in 2022
The US is shit. The air quality, equality, child safety, and buying power have been degraded, eroded, polluted, and destroyed at will (not necessarily in that order).
Yet, you are expected to carry on, footloose and fancy-free doing your part to spark the economy, suppress your simmering rage, and grin and bear it. Nothing makes sense. It’s a mood, as the kids say.
But, as much as you may be tempted to yell BUCKET and throw your hands up in surrender, you can’t let the man get you down.
What follows are five things you CAN do to create momentum in a better direction.
Buy a house BEFORE you can afford it.
I get it. Not everyone wants to be a homeowner. Not everyone can swing 20% down. Not everyone lives in an affordable area. Not everyone has a stable job, qualifies for a mortgage, or has good credit.
There are a million reasons not to buy a house, and one good one that overshadows virtually all of them: It will force you to get your ducks in a row.
You’ll start thinking of purchases as long-term investments. You’ll prioritize your spending and your choices accordingly. A big overarching goal like a 20 or 30-year mortgage means taking options off the table that result in instant gratification and being disciplined…
